VICTORIA MAVERICKS BASEBALL

The City of Victoria and the District of Saanich both have a very long and proud history of supporting senior and junior men’s amateur baseball. Lambrick Park (home of Mavericks Field and Victoria Mavericks Baseball) is a safe and relaxing environment to enjoy a number of various activities. It is located in Gordon Head, one of the residential areas of Saanich, B.C. The Mavericks Field is bordered by three Little League diamonds, a junior (Bantam/Midget) diamond, community recreation centre, two public schools, three soccer pitches, tennis courts, a lacrosse box, lawn bowling club and a large public walkway. Subsequently our baseball facility is frequently visited by thousands of spectators throughout the regular season.

In addition Victoria Mavericks Baseball is the home for Canada’s second oldest amateur trophy. The R.P. Rithet Cup (established in 1922) is annually awarded to the League’s Playoff Champions. Our games are also free of charge and every ‘box-score’ and ‘times-of-play’ are posted daily in the Times Colonist newspaper and on the League’s website. In regards to the ballpark Victoria Mavericks Baseball receives some assistance from the Saanich Parks and Recreation Department (which is mainly due to their budget restrictions). The Parks Department provides annual field preparation and ‘in-season’ grass cutting of Mavericks Field. Otherwise all field maintenance, supplies, equipment and official fees are the sole responsibility of Victoria Mavericks Baseball.

As a non-profit organization we partly rely on corporate sponsorships from within our community. These sponsorships help us to increase the League’s seasonal revenues in order to ‘match and balance’ with our League’s seasonal expenses. During the ‘off-season’ we solicit each team’s ‘naming rights’ to these prospective businesses. The Mavericks’ Executive is very committed to this issue of sponsorship revenue as well as the progressive development of our baseball program. Each season the League Executive sets aside funds for future field and facility improvements for the game we all love. In addition our League Executive, Managers, Directors, Coaches, players, staff and volunteers have all been a part of our organization for many years now. As of this season senior men’s amateur baseball has been a part of the capital region for over 85 years. Simply put, “we are here to stay!”
